Why Should I Consider Electric Options For My New Van?

In the face of today’s climate emergency, it can be difficult to know how we can make a difference on an individual basis. While we all recycle and try to reduce our consumption of finite resources, it can sometimes feel like these small changes are futile. But collective change is important to improve the way we all treat our environment, where over time permanent culture shifts will help to safeguard our planet’s future.

One area in which we can all make a difference is through our transportation choices, where electric vehicles in particular are becoming more and more affordable and readily available. Read on to learn about the many reasons to go electric with your next van purchase.

Environmental Benefits

The major benefit of choosing an electric van is that it is much more environmentally friendly than a vehicle which runs on diesel or petrol. This is because non-renewable fuels release harmful carbon emissions when they combust, polluting the atmosphere and contributing to the greenhouse effect every time you drive.

Fuel Efficiency

In addition to being better for the environment, electric vehicles are also much more fuel efficient than traditional alternatives. This is because they convert electricity directly into movement, compared to the process of burning fuel to produce heat which is then converted into motion. Based on fuel costs alone, this means that electric vehicles are cheaper to run than diesel.

Government Grants

You may be concerned about initial upfront costs when it comes to buying an electric van. Fortunately you can expect to secure a government grant when you make your purchase, which should be taken off the cost of your new vehicle by the dealership. These plug-in vehicle grants are designed to encourage the switch to electric, where you could receive a subsidy of up to £2500 for a small van.

No Road Tax (Currently)

Another benefit of making the switch to electric is that you’re currently exempt from paying road tax. Electric vans don’t produce tailpipe emissions, and so won’t be charged Vehicle Excise Duty. This is the current situation, although it should be noted that from April 2025 all vehicles including electric models will have to pay road tax.

"First time using Vansaway! I was in a bit of a panic as my van broke down and I was unable to fix it. My van is my livihood, so I looked into leasing and contract. I wish I done it sooner. I spoke to Jonathan as my first point of contact. I couldn't have got any luckier having him as my support. He was absolutely fantastic, he went above and beyond to help me. He was easy to contact and would always reply when I had any concerns or questions. His knowledge on all vehicles was impeccable, which made things easier. He listened to what I wanted and needed and explained everything thoroughly help me making the right choice in plan and kept in touch throughout the entire process! He knew I was in desperate need of a van and he did not disappoint and kept his word and I was able to get my new van delivered as soon as possible. Enjoying the drive. Its great about the perks involved in having a contract hire as well! Thank you so much for everything! Highly recommend, vans are just not how they use to be, so its great to have a brand new van along with the support of any engine faults things like that. A huge stress off my shoulders being sole trader."

"VWS Limited recently leased three vans through Vanaways, and we could not fault the service we received. Rod in Sales and Ash in Delivery were both extremely professional, knowledgeable, and helpful throughout the entire process. They made every aspect of arranging the leases straightforward and kept us informed every step of the way. We are delighted with our new vehicles and would have no hesitation in recommending Vanaways to anyone looking for a professional, efficient, and customer-focused vehicle leasing service.
