There is no question now that electric power for vehicles is now a viable option for many around the globe. In recent times the world has become acutely aware of the damage we have done to our planet. Now, in the 21st century, we have turned a corner and have produced a number of new inventions that hope to start the recovery process that our environment so desperately needs.
One of these new advancements is, of course, the electric car. What was once a pipe dream is now very much a reality and electric vehicles are extremely capable. However, this does cause us a slight issue. With the models that we see in 2023 what type of van is right for you? Electric or Diesel?
Engines and Spec
When it comes to the Nisan Townstar there are clearly a few notable differences between the two models. However, they both have their own unique benefits so it’s important to consider everything before you make your decision.
The engine in the regular-powered Townstar is a 1.3-litre petrol model and is built perfectly for economical use. The engine has approximately 122 bhp and can achieve a range of around 269 miles. These stats are of course extremely impressive and for those who need a van that is both good when it comes to range and fairly fast, this is a great option.
The petrol variant also has 240 Nm of torque which is incredibly impressive. This torque capability means that this van is also a great choice if you do a lot of towing. So, essentially the petrol variant is a brilliant all-round option and is certainly a highly capable van. What’s more, if you still want to do your bit for the environment this is a great choice. Its small engine is incredibly economical for a petrol-powered vehicle and will certainly keep your conscious clear.
As for the electric counterpart, this is also a fairly capable vehicle. The electric motor produces a commendable 122ps and 245 Nm of torque. So, if you’re after a proficient towing van certainly don’t write off the Townstar electric model.
The electric model’s range is also extremely impressive. The motor will allow the van to travel for up to 183 miles which is very commendable for an electric vehicle. Certainly, this van will suit people very well if they’re used to travelling short distances multiple times a day.
Interior
As for the interior, both of these vans are extremely similar which in some ways might make it slightly easier for you to decide. Both of the vans have a myriad of storage capabilities and are built to impeccably high standards. The finishings have a real sense of quality and will without question last a lifetime. As for the technology on board the two vans both use a 10-inch digital display which can act as both a navigation system and a stereo with Apple Car Play available. This is a great option to have and will certainly make those Monday morning commutes a little more bearable!
So, there’s not much to split the two variants when it comes to the interior but that’s not necessarily a drawback. The two variants are brilliantly made and after all, if it isn’t broken then don’t fix it! Certainly whichever variant you choose the interior will be one of the highlights of your purchase.
The Verdict/Snap shot
Cleary when it comes to running the costs the electric variant wins this matter hands down. You won’t need to pay any road tax on your van and powering it is completely free! Admittedly, there is slightly less range than the petrol model and you’re not always guaranteed to have a fast charger nearby. However, if it’s the cost you’re worried about, then the electric model is certainly the right choice for you.
So, what about the payload? Of course, this is probably one of the most important aspects of any van purchase and you need to know if your vehicle can carry the loads you need it to. You might be surprised to hear that both these vans have the exact same payload! So, again, this won’t need to impact your decision. They can both carry a maximum of 800 Kg which for a small van is extremely capable indeed.
Essentially then, this decision comes down to two main things. The vehicles range and your location. Naturally, if you live in an area where fast chargers and electric power points are few and far between then the electric model might not be for you. Equally, if you live in a city and need to do a lot of small journeys, then the petrol model won’t be your first choice.
