Maxus Deliver 9 Van Review

The Maxus Deliver 9 Van at a glance

First launched in 2020, the Maxus Deliver 9 has shaken up the commercial vehicle market with its impressive payload and competitive cost.

Delivering an excellent payload, large load area, competitive running costs and a high-spec cabin for all less than its main rivals, it’s no surprise why this van is so popular in the commercial sector.

There’s one engine, a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel paired exclusively to a manual gearbox, and a choice of two trim levels named Standard and Luxury.

The van is available at Vanaways for just £259 + VAT and includes air conditioning, auto lights, cruise control and a number of other desirable features.

If a low initial cost is your biggest priority and you’re not able to close the gap by ordering rivals in large numbers, then the Maxus seems quite appealing.

So if you’re looking for a reliable and affordable van with an impressive payload, this could be the van for you.

Read on to hear our thoughts on the engines and specs, interior, and pros and cons of this large van to help you decide if this could be the vehicle for you.

Engines and Spec

The Maxus Deliver 9 Van boasts a brand new engine of Maxus’ own design. It’s a 2.0-litre diesel engine known as the SAIC Pi engine, and it produces 163hp and 375Nm of torque. This is enough torque to pull the heavy loads that likely buyers will need to shift, reducing the need for frantic gear swapping when a steep incline is encountered. The top speed is 100mph and there’s a 2,500kg braked towing capacity.

The engine will return 28.8mpg on the combined cycle.

With a 6-speed manual gearbox and electric steering, the Maxus Deliver 9 is powerful with reasonably good refinement. The steering is also particularly light making city driving easy.

Brake assist complements the usual ABS system for emergency stops and ESP stability control is standard too.

Service intervals for the Deliver 9 are set at every 12 months or 18,645 miles (30,000km). That’s annoyingly frequent, given most rivals can go up to two years between services. You do however get a usefully long five-year, 125,000-mile warranty.

The Maxus Deliver 9 is comfortable even without anything in the back, which is not always the case for large vans.

If you are looking for a van with a powerful engine able to pull heavy loads, this van is likely to be sufficient for your needs.

Interior

The Maxus Deliver 9 Van is modern, easy to navigate and comfortable.

There’s a touchscreen-enabled infotainment system with ‘Apple Car Play’ and ‘Android Auto’ smartphone mirroring positioned high up on the dashboard, with climate controls positioned on the other side of the gear lever pod.

Storage is fairly good, with door pockets large enough to accommodate bottles, but the glove box is a bit small and you don’t get any storage above the dashboard.

Everything is built to a last and feels like a cabin that could withstand the rigours of a hard-working life.

It features a heavy-duty bulkhead and rear doors that open to 260 degrees for easy loading. And extra features include a low rear step, lashing rings, grab handles and an LED-illuminated load compartment.

The standard Maxus Deliver 9 trim gets a regular stereo with an LCD display. It has big, easy-to-hit buttons and Bluetooth connectivity. The Luxury model, however, comes with a large, 10.0-inch infotainment touchscreen and a reversing camera which feels much more modern. All models do get steering-wheel-mounted controls for the radio, which is a nice touch.

The standard equipment for the Maxus Deliver 9 van also includes air-conditioning, cruise control, electric front windows, remote central locking, autonomous emergency braking and more.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Affordable

  • Comfortable ride

  • Excellent payload figures

Cons

  • Interior material could be of a higher quality

  • Not much choice in the range

The Verdict

Overall, the Maxus Deliver 9 Van demonstrates that new vehicles don’t have to be as expensive as they are.

Packed full of impressive features including excellent payload figures, low running costs and a spacious, comfortable ride, it’s not surprising that this van is so popular in the commercial sector.

While the Maxus Deliver 9 Van might not have as much sophistication as other competitors in the large van sector, it costs significantly less and serves the needs of your business just as well.

"First time using Vansaway! I was in a bit of a panic as my van broke down and I was unable to fix it. My van is my livihood, so I looked into leasing and contract. I wish I done it sooner. I spoke to Jonathan as my first point of contact. I couldn't have got any luckier having him as my support. He was absolutely fantastic, he went above and beyond to help me. He was easy to contact and would always reply when I had any concerns or questions. His knowledge on all vehicles was impeccable, which made things easier. He listened to what I wanted and needed and explained everything thoroughly help me making the right choice in plan and kept in touch throughout the entire process! He knew I was in desperate need of a van and he did not disappoint and kept his word and I was able to get my new van delivered as soon as possible. Enjoying the drive. Its great about the perks involved in having a contract hire as well! Thank you so much for everything! Highly recommend, vans are just not how they use to be, so its great to have a brand new van along with the support of any engine faults things like that. A huge stress off my shoulders being sole trader."
